Plaintiffs in a lawsuit who were awarded an enormous amount of money for alleged defamation by the founder of a mortgage company are taking steps to collect.
Michael Gill, the founder of Mortgage Specialists Inc., accused four men of various crimes while on a radio show and through electronic billboards in high-traffic areas in New Hampshire.
So they sued Gill for defamation and won. In total, the quartet was awarded almost $275 million — an amount that one of the plaintiffs called “the largest defamation judgment ever” in the United States.
